Theoretical Study of a Design Method for Underexcavation in Building Rectification

For buildings with shallow foundations embedded in natural soil sediments, the underexcavation method is often used to correct building inclination. Relying on engineering experience and close field monitoring, rectification has been conducted successfully. However, theoretical studies are relatively scarce, resulting an inadequately informed design procedure. Assuming ideal elastic-plastic body, a simplified analysis was adopted study issue theoretically. First, redistribution of base contact pressure after inclination deduced. Second, according force balance between total stress horizontal plane at excavation hole, limit hole spacing critical state back tilt obtained, which also preferable for strip collapse. Third, because amount anticipated forced settlement certain section equal volume collapse, accurate formula diameter obtained. Combined experience, suggestions procedure were proposed. Finally, two case histories introduced verify correctness practicability diameter. These key parameters provide strong basis future practice.
